A Sustainable Approach to Business

A growing awareness of the impact business has on the environment has driven sustainability to become a core objective for organisations of all types and sizes. Process automation and digital transformation initiatives are often as much about sustainability as they are efficiency.

At Docutec, sustainability is a fundamental part of our company culture. We are acutely aware of the importance of meeting the needs of now without compromising the needs of the future. We have a genuine desire to improve the sustainability of our company and our work within the industry.

There is more and more research to indicate that customers also care about sustainability and want to partner with businesses that promote socially responsible work practices. Clearly, sustainable approaches are not just good for the environment, they are also good for business. University College Cork, a world leader in green practices, recently awarded the contract for their print fleet to Docutec, recognising a partner with a similar approach to social and environmental responsibility.

As a proud supplier to University College Cork, a world leading Green Campus, our sustainable approach merged perfectly with UCC’s proactive, environmentally friendly ethos. The green credentials embodied in our EQ80 range of products shone through during the tender process and our overall environmental policy confirmed that Docutec was their ideal partner.

By choosing remanufactured machines, the procurement team at UCC clearly saw the environmental advantage gained in both increasing the product longevity and reducing the waste generated in manufacture by almost 80%. It is a business model that keeps UCC at the forefront of the drive towards a circular economy and helps them deliver on their own exacting sustainability targets.

Docutec actively encourages green practices and promotes a sustainable approach to printing within UCC. We offer practical, effective improvements to reduce waste and the associated costs while facilitating an increase in recycling rates.

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

While sustainability covers many aspects, environmental sustainability, at its simplest, means being aware of your resource consumption and reducing unnecessary waste. At Docutec, we strive to incorporate the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle into every aspect of our business.

How do we make a difference?

Digitising your information and implementing a document management system supports a comprehensive list of practical benefits.

Remanufactured Machines

Supplying remanufactured machines facilitates an immediate reduction of 80% in raw material and manufacturing costs. These are highly efficient best-selling machines that have been disassembled, cleaned, updated, rebuilt and tested to exacting standards. As good as new without the cost. Click here for more on the EQ80 range.

We have an ambitious plan to convert our entire fleet of company vehicles to electric cars and vans.  So far, we are 25% on target with 5 electric vehicles out of a fleet of 20. Cleaner, greener driving has been embraced by our team who fully support this move.

Recycling Toners & Drums

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Empty toners, cartridges and drums can all be returned to Docutec for onward recycling. We gather them and return them to a licensed operator for refilling or repurposing.  Click here for our recycling process.

Paper Donations for Budding Artists

Waste not, want not!

All paper that is retrieved from upgraded machines is taken and stored for distribution among our customer base of schools and creches. Paper that is no longer suitable for use in a printer is ideal for art and craft projects.

The paperless office

A variety of initiatives help reduce the level of paper generated: secure print, duplex printing by default, scan to server/email – understanding what and why we print, helps reduce waste and save time, energy and materials. Click here to see how we support UCC’s sustainable print policy.

Staff Supports

Walk the Walk, Talk the Talk

Staff are encouraged to be part of the sustainability team and to bring forward any ideas they may have to reduce waste and improve our green practices. Simple things like turning off lights in vacant rooms to encouraging reusable coffee cups and water bottles make a difference.

Think Global, Act Local

As a Platinum Partner, we enjoy a very dynamic relationship with Canon. They are open to our ideas and suggestions and encourage us to push back up the chain for changes we wish to see implemented. A global reduction in packaging generated and a move towards more recyclable packaging is very strongly supported.

Small steps make a big difference

Every effort is made to reduce the waste we generate and to manage the waste we do produce. All paper is shredded on site and is used for dog and chicken bedding. Wooden pallets are available to staff for garden projects or donated to a local Children’s enterprise.

Recycle Your Toner Bottles with Docutec

Don't Discard the Empty Toner Bottles

All empty toner bottles and tubes (for Black, Cyan, Magenta & Yellow toner) can be returned to us for recycling.

Segregate the Packaging

  • Remove the external cardboard packaging from the toner tube and recycle it locally in your green bin.
  • Pack the toner bottles tightly into a box.
      • It reduces movement and ensures that the box can be filled.
      • Greater volumes per shipment reduces transport costs.

Return Your Empties

Here’s how!

  • Drop the empty toner bottles into any one of our warehouses – Waterford/Cork/Limerick/Dublin – see below.
  • Send them back to our Waterford Warehouse via post/courier.

Docutec have collaborated with Kollect Waste & Removal to recycle these toner tubes.

  1. Effective Local Recycling
  2. Reduced Transport Cost
  3. Reduced Carbon Footprint
  4. Diverted away from Landfill
  5. Sustainable Solution

Thank you for helping us to recycle more.
